School Counselor

The School Counselor supports students in their academic, moral and spiritual formation.  This person oversees student academic and social emotional growth, aids in communication of student achievement, and advises students in discerning post-secondary (vocations).  

 

Minimum of a Bachelors’ Degree required for employment.

  • Responsibilities
    • Supports and upholds the philosophy of Catholic education and the mission of the school
    • Acts as a witness to Gospel values by modeling the teachings of the Catholic Church
    • Supports and adheres to the Code of Conduct and policies and procedures of the school and Diocese of Peoria
    • Demonstrates professionalism in conduct, demeanor, and work habits
  • Academic Advising 
    • Works with incoming students to create 4 year plans for high school 
    • Guides current students through the yearly course registration process 
    • Schedules internal college visits throughout the academic year
    • Submits necessary reports & transcripts to colleges and universities 
    • Aids in maintaining and establishing dual credit opportunities through Parkland College
    • Creates letters of recommendation when requested
    • Provides scholarship information and resources to families via Naviance 
    • Oversees the Academic Success Program
    • Works with Peer Tutoring
    • Creates and maintains the master schedule 
  • Social Emotional Counseling 
    • Counsels students regarding social/emotional issues as needed
    • Maintains student confidentiality
  • General
    • Works with Principal to analyze data
    • Communicates accurately and in a timely manner with students, parents, and school faculty 
    • Communicates with the Principal regarding student issues 
    • Builds school culture by participating in various activities
